About the blogger.

I’m just your average ordinary blogger. I’m trying to write at least one entry per day, just as an exercise in getting back into writing. Make no mistake about it, there will be absolutely nothing of any great importance here, just a tiny look into my head and what I’m thinking about that day.

Every thing you say is important–vitally important for people like me who understand–truly understand. I am 65 and because of many other medical issues I may not be able to even consider ECT.

I am assuming that you are familiar with the book by Dr. Kay Jamison, An Unquiet Mind–frightening but reassuring that we are not alone on this bewildering journey.

Dear Angie,

I have been suffering from this current bout of depression since 2001, medication started to work somewhat in 2003 but then stopped in 2005. I still feel depressed, tired and sick inspite of being on medication but off medication I am much, much worse.

I have often thought about having a full course of ECT but my psychiatrists will not even consider it as I am still functioning and I think they don’t believe it is worth the risks and I think they don’t believe it will be very effective for me but I’m not sure what to try next and I have to try something.

I saw the start of your blog on your ECT experience but it seems to have stopped. Can you tell me how you are getting on now? Has ECT helped or is it helping you?

Thanks….Denise

Thank you for posting your experiences with depression and ECT. My ECT treatment is coming up in a few weeks and I’m terrified! It’s very comforting to read about what you went through.

Yes, those are not uncommon symptoms with severe depression. The “fog”, especially. I hope your Dad gets the medical help he needs to get through this.
